Each year Samsung hosts a $2 million national Solve for Tomorrow competition where students are challenged to consider how science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) can make a change in their community. With the help of their teacher, students can apply to compete in the Solve for Tomorrow contest and enter to win $100,000 in prizes for their school, plus the opportunity to work with Samsung employees to develop their prototype that will change a community-based problem. Through the Solve for Tomorrow competition, participants will have the chance to participate in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) that will challenge them to find a solution to a problem impacting their community. The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest is currently within Phase 1 (Dec. 3rd - Jan. 9th) where State Finalists are being announced. Out of the 300 state finalists, the five Utah state finalists include:
  • InTech Collegiate Academy - Logan, UT
  • Northwest Middle School - Salt Lake City, UT
  • West High School - Salt Lake City, UT
  • Tooele High School - Tooele, UT
  • Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers - West Jordan, UT
While it may be too late for any more schools to enter the competition, we are very proud of the five schools that have been selected for Phase 1! 50 of the 300 state finalists will be selected to move on to phase 2 (Jan. 28 - Mar. 6), and all other state finalists will receive a $2,500 prize package from Samsung.
